Spasmotive

Spasmotive

I have been directing rather than dancing with my collaborator Mel Smith over the past few months. “Spasmotive” is a creative development for a solo work for her utilising circus systems and rigging at the Women’s Circus to find new ways for her to move and express. The other collaborators involved are rigger/trainer Franca Stadler, visual artist Stef Robinson and musician/composer Mark Lang.

Melinda, a dancer with Cerebral Palsy, has made extraordinary physical and artistic developments since moving into dance improvisation practice several years ago and now seeks to experiment with ways to more fully express her artistic vision while also expanding views on and of different bodies. She will integrate her writing and artwork into a physical exploration of the complex negotiations between brain and body in her life.

There will be three public showings of the work in progress

at The Drill Hall (Women’s Circus)

395 Barkly Street, West Footscray

Saturday 17 Feb @ 6.30pm

Sunday 18 Feb @ 3pm

Sunday 25 Feb @ 3pm
